Mission
The TRP-CSA will be the premier teacher preparation program of educators for 21st century learning, teaching and leadership in critical shortage areas. The Teacher Residency Program at Texas State University is informed by the following theories: critical theory, diffusion of innovation theory and change theory.
Program Goals
- To recruit and select academically talented and diverse cohorts of Teaching Residency Program participants who have degrees, a minimum of 24 hours of mathematics or science and the personal characteristics that contribute to teaching success in high-need schools.
- To utilize the strengths and resources of the partnership to provide a high-quality preparation program that combines academic coursework in content and pedagogy with extensive field-based professional experiences in high-need schools and results in participants earning a graduate degree and teacher certification within a 14-month period.
- To facilitate the placement and hiring of program graduates into high-need schools in order to positively impact the student achievement in these schools.
- To deliver a high-quality teacher induction program to program completers for the first two years of classroom teaching.
